Both routes start from Glen Trool Visitor Centre which has a tea room. Please bear in mind that forestry operations may mean that some sections are occasionally closed. There is an attractive camp site with a shop, further up the glen, and a hotel serving bar food just south of Glentrool Village.
The town of Newton Stewart is eight miles south of Glen Trool. An good way to reach this on a bike is via the quiet minor road starting from Borgan (see map).
Three miles of this, between Glen Trool Village and the Forestry Commission camp site is on the minor road leading up Glen Trool. This section is almost flat. There is a small shop in the camp site if you need refreshment before starting the dirt road sections which are hillier.
After travelling south-west for four miles the route briefly joins the public road to cross the river then turns north on a dirt section for three miles to join the Glen Trool road just east of Glen Trool Village.
