This is a lovely route if sometimes quite hilly. There are a few short steep hills near the start and a 200 metre climb to get between Loch Tummel and Strathtay (a strath is a wide valley). Other than that the route is reasonably gentle. The description here is anti-clockwise from Pitlochry.

The southern part of the route is also signed as National Cycle Network Route 7. The yellow arrows on the map here indicate the northern section is part of our long distance route between Aberfoyle and Kirriemuir.

Between Coshieville and Logierait there are no serious hills, the road follows the River Tay downstream most of the time. There is a hotel at Weem and before that you pass Castle Menzies, a fine example of a Z-plan castle where defence of the walls is covered by projecting towers. It's now a clan centre.

Aberfeldy is less than a mile off-route. It has lots of shops, choice of tea rooms, B&Bs, hotels etc, but no bike shop. Five miles after Weem you pass a small food shop in Strathtay Village (ice cream, fruit etc). There is a hotel over the bridge at Grandtully.

A mile after Strathtay Village you have to briefly join the A827, turning right on to it to cross the river to get to the B898.

Three miles on from this you need to cross the former railway bridge at Logierait. This is not easily visible but it is signed from both directions. You might like to note that at the south end you join the track to it near a stone cottage with two chimneys.

After crossing the bridge turn sharp left, then turn right up a hill near the Logierait Hotel. After this continue for four hilly miles to enter Pitlochry.
